    BARC TECHNICAL T’s

As discussed at the last club meeting, I am looking into ordering technical racing t-shirts with the BARC logo. These shirts would be available for purchase and would be a great means of showing club support.

Just wondering if people would prefer a white shirt with color logo, or a color shirt. I was thinking white would be better for warm weather running & racing.

I am interested in member input. Let me know what you think.

  2. Brian Herek Says:

I think the clothing is a great idea.

    Regarding the warm weather aspect:

Most of the guys go shirtless or wear a singlet for the summer time races. Singlets would be a nice option too. Although, I’m not sure how much money you want tied up in different options. IMO I would prefer a light colored singlet.

    Thanks

  3. Brian Larive Says Says:

B.A.R.C Shrits sound good to me. Put me down for two XL’s.

    Q. Is the freeze your fanny 5K going to be on the same course
    as last year?

    Thanks Brian

  4. John Metevia Says:

Course will be the same as the Christmas race, which was a little differnet than las year. We do the loop by the boat launch both out and back, and don’t cross the train tracks on Midland Rd.

  5. Jason LaFave Says:

Check out this website if you haven’t already. www.athlinks.com. It will track all of your race results for you.

  6. Daryl Bernard Says:

Thanks Jason - that’s a great site. It’s amazing how many of my race results are listed. And I found out there’s a 45 year old Daryl Bernard in Illinois, and that I’d beat him if we raced head-to-head!

  7. Jeff VanDusen Says:

That website is awesome, I was looking for that somebody told me about it but couldn’t remember the URL.

    Thanks Jason

    ~Jeff

  8. Daryl Bernard Says:

Also at that site check out the “RIVALS” option. You can see how you fared head-to-head with all the people you’ve raced against three or more times.

  9. Teresa Martin Says:

Missed you all at Reese. I hope you ran well. I’ll be seeing you in Bay City for the Spirit of Winter race.

  10. Daryl Bernard Says:

SUNDAY RUN at the TRIDGE in MIDLAND

I’m planning on 10 miles at ~8:30 pace tomorrow, Sunday Feb 3 @ 9:00am. Anyone interested meet at the Tridge.

  11. Jeff Christian Says:

Hey everyone whats up?Its nice to see BARC got a blog and I hope everyone is doing well.

    Jeff Christian

  12. Mallory McCracken Says:

We missed you at Reese too, Teresa. It was a bit icy but not too bad overall. See you in a couple of weeks. :-)

  13. Gary Scott Says:

Hi to everyone, I had hernia surgery on Jan 30th and I won’t be running for 6 to 8 weeks. What a bummer! I was just getting really ready for St. Pats this winter and this had to happen. I also jumped into a new age group on the 28th (60-64). I hope to be back racing in June, might not be up to par but back to see you all. I hope to be at some of the races whether I race or not. Everyone take care and I’ll see you soon.
    Gary Scott

  14. Daniel Dobberstein Says:

Gary, I fell on the ice two years ago and was unable to run for two months. Just be patient and you will heal up after your surgery. Just take it easy and don’t push yourself too hard. You will definitely be back at the top of your new age group before you know it.
    Dan Dobberstein

  15. Daryl Bernard Says:

Teresa - sorry you missed Reese - when you’re not at a local race, people start to wonder! See you next Saturday.

Jeff - haven’t seen you since Reese #1. Hope your running is going well.

Gary - sorry to hear about your surgery, and hope your recovery goes well. You’ve had a long injury lay-off in the past, so you know you can come back just fine, although it will probably drive you crazy! Good luck.

HEY - was it COLD today or was it just me?!?! I stuck to my schedule and put in 12 miles this morning at the Tridge - what a nasty wind, and just 2 degrees! My eyes almost froze shut! But it was a good run.

Spirit of Winter - Saturday in Bay City!

    ~DB

  16. Steve Moelter Says:

Eight days and counting without running!! Was out for my lunchtime run last Monday (2/4/08). Just crusin’ along thru the slush when I looked up to see CINDY TEWS coming toward me. She was ACTUALLY RUNNING again. I was so surprised, I didn’t watch my footing, came down wrong on a chunk of slush that actually was a chunk of ice, and rolled my ankle big time. A week and a day later, it’s still swollen and bruised on both the medial and lateral sides. OWIE.

The moral is: watch where you’re going and watch your footing during these winter runs; and, look out, Cindy’s back, takin’ numbers and kickin’ you know what.

  17. Gary Scott Says:

    Hi to all,
Because of my surgery, I will not be able to lift boxes of shirts etc on St. Pats Saturday and Sunday as I normally do to help out. Therefore, if any of you can help me with the removing boxes from the Expo and moving them to the Consistory on Saturday night and also removing the leftovers Sunday at the Consistory at noon, please let me know. The volunteer time would be from 5:00pm to 6:00pm on Saturday and 11:30am to 12:30pm on Sunday. I will only be able to drive truck and supervise.
    Thanks in advance,
    Gary

  18. Mitch Says:

    This is a test.

  19. Daryl Bernard Says:

FYI - If you’re considering the Bayshore marathon in May, be aware - I just received an e-mail yesterday stating that there were just 400 spots remaining, and that they expect to fill in 2 or 3 weeks or less. Better register now. Also, the half-marathon closed a few weeks ago.

    ~DB

  20. Linda Flues Says:

Hi All, In answer to Daryl’s initial question I think white shirts with color would be cool. Maybe long sleeve and no sleeve shirts. Also just to let everyone know we are trying to gather a group to run a 1/2 marathon on May 17, 2008 in Indiana. It is called the Geist 1/2 and it is an inaugural 1/2. Check it out geisthalf.com. So far 6 people have committed.
If not see you at the races. LF

  21. Jeff Senkowski Says:

    Linda,
I would be interested in either a long or short sleeve. I’d like to see “our” colors flying at some of the big races. I’m kind of tired of looking at all the Hanson’s jerseys! I’d like to run that 1/2 marathon but unfortunately it’s Turkey season, I hope you have fun. I plan on running the Martian 1/2 marathon the first week of April near Detroit.

  22. Cindy Tews Says:

Thanks Steve & hello all. I am on my way back running again I hope. I had my rt ACL repaired 9/6/06 & then replaced 9/5/07. It has been a long, long time off and a lot of therapy. Can’t wait to get back to run Tuesadays. Miss everyone. Hope to see you all at St. Pats.

  23. Daryl Bernard Says:

Looking for thoughts from marathoners: As my long runs have reached the mid-upper teens (14, 16, then 18 miles this morning), I come home and just feel whipped, beat, drained the rest of the day. The run goes well, but the remainder of my day seems shot. I don’t recall this happening with my other marathons (2 in ‘04, 2 in ‘06). The quality of my diet seems better than better than ever, and I’m in the best running shape I’ve ever been in. I take rest days (no running) every Friday and Monday. What’s up? Anybody else ever experience this? Maybe I’m just getting old! ~DB

  24. Daniel Dobberstein Says:

Daryl, I ran marathons from 1976 until 2006 when I tore my quadriceps muscle, a total of 76 marathons. The best advice I can give you is to “listen to your body.” If you feel you need to rest it is better to rest than run. You will have a slower pace as you get older, but a lot depends upon the course and weather conditions too. Good Luck in running your next marathon.

  25. Ted Davenport Says:

Good Luck everybody this weekend and I hope to see all of you…..

  26. Brian Herek Says:

    Re: Athlinks

Is there any chance of any more of the older BARC races being uploaded to Athlinks?

  27. Bill Schafer Says:

Hi Y’all - great blog - Daryl, my long run days are usually full exhaust as well but with some good recovery fix and ice I am usally good to go the next day. One thing to remember — your immune system is susceptible right after that long run as I found out two weeks ago. Came down with a dandy cold two days after a 22 miler. I am off to New Mexico soon to run the Bataan Death March Marathon at White Sands Missile Range. My first trail distance run and first at elevation. Should be interesting and slow but I am looking forward to paying tribute to our present and past warriors.
    God Speed to all.

  28. Linda Flues Says:

Hi Everyone, The Bay City Times is going to write an article on runners bound for the Boston Marathon. Anyone going to the Marathon or knows of someone going to Boston please let me know. So far we know of Chuck Haertel, Cadia Humpula, Tammy Taylor, John Buday, and Ann Booms. Thanks.

  29. Marty Schultz Says:

    Linda
Jim Bergeron and his mother who also qualified (good article potential) are headed to Boston. Jim works at Idzior Furniture here in Pinconning and lives in Sterling Area.

  30. Jeff Senkowski Says:

We had great weather for the Matian half-marathon down in Detroit this past weekend. I even ran into BARC member Mr. Leonard Block and several of his friends down there. It’s good to see some familiar faces at far away races.

  31. Justin Says:

Great post, just like always. When I’m entering your blog I’m always sure I won’t regret it. Continue writing.

  32. Ted Davenport Says:

Great job to those who ran the Martian half-Marathon………Looks the Bay Area was well represented.

  33. Bob Niven Says:

Didn”t know the Times was doing an article on Boston runners til I scanned the BARC wbsite. No big deal, me and my brother ran it. Great weather but fell apart at the Newtons. I’ll get em next year! Bob

  34. Linda Flues Says:

We finally have a club shirt and it looks really cool. Cadia designed it and did a really great job. I will be selling them at races for $12.50 each. They are technical short sleeve shirts. I will try to get a picture to Mitch to put on the website and to Bridget to put in newsletter. If any questions you can contact me at lflues@hotmail.com

  35. Daniel Dobberstein Says:

I live in Saginaw and I did not see any articles in the Bay City Times about any area runners doing the Boston Marathon. If anyone can either send me the articles or give me some information on how to obtain them, I would appreciate it My e-mail address is: danield357@charter.net

  36. John Niven Says:

I always enjoy doing the Run by the Bay, very disappointed with the Bay City DNR charging $6.00 at the gate just to race. I drive up from Flint to run this and that $6.00 would have been my gas money. Please let us know next year if they will charge. If so I will do the local 5K here that day (Healing Hands at Mott College).

  37. Bob Niven Says:

I was just wondering about the $6 fee to enter the park for the race last weekend. I must’ve seen 4-5 cars turn around when presented with this fee. I wish I would’ve known before I got there! Hell, I pay the city of Bay City $1460 for a slip At Liberty for a boat that sits there for 4 months out of the year and I can’t into the State Park for two hours. Great race - Bad fee!!!

  38. Gary Scott Says:

To all “Run by the Bay” entrants: Due to the State pulling a fast one on Greg last weekend, he has decided to stop directing that race. The State lost this one, the club is dropping this event and the Park will lose out on donations it was getting from us over the past twelve years.

  39. Daniel Dobberstein Says:

For those who ran/walked the Thumb Memorial Race, the results can be found on Runmichigan.com website.

  40. Bill954269978 Says:

  41. AD Lundy Says:

I know this is all political in what the state does; but with BARC donating for the last 12 years, isn’t the amount lost from donations greater than the amount received in admission fees to the park? Let’s get a few dollars now, rather than wait for a few for dollars in a couple of weeks!!

I turned around at the gate. I’m not a BARC member, but i don’t blame the club for the faults of others out of the clubs control.

  42. Daniel Dobberstein Says:

To Liz in Caseville, Please send me a fun run application via postal mail because this blog will not publish my e-mail address.

    Thank you, Dan

  43. Mallory McCracken Says:

    To Dan Dobberstein:

I just wanted to let you know that there are no paper forms available for the Fun Run in Caseville. You can either register online or register at the park when you get there.

  44. Jason LaFave Says:

Any idea what is going on with awards from the River Run website? I have not heard anything and thought we would have gotten them by now.

  45. Jason LaFave Says:

I was curious if anyone knows when the awards for the River Run were going to be available. I have not heard a thing yet on those. Thanks!

  46. Gary Scott Says:

They are Chuck Keene, Linda Flues, Mitch Miller, Ralph Palmer, Mike Knapp, Nancy Powers, Greg & Jean Rankin, Wayne Beyersdorf, David Cable, Dolores Henslery, Nancy Gill.

  47. Craig Finkbeiner Says:

We’re driving up for the Hartwick Pines Challenge Saturday, Oct. 4th.
    It’s a 7.2 or 3.1 mile trail run. www.grayling-area.com/pinerace.
Race starts at 10 AM, we’re just going for the day (Penny & I), possibly a hike afterward. Anyone interested in carpooling?

  48. Linda Flues Says:

To Jason on the awards for the River Run. Ted Davenport has them and has had them for several weeks. If you will be at Chad Schieber run I will see if I can get yours from Ted.

  49. Jason LaFave Says:

    Linda,

I was able to get with Ted and got my award from him over at the Delta Invite. Thanks!

  50. Al Gabalis Says:
